Dear Cinda,

Me and my family want to go to Thailand for two weeks this upcoming winter, but we’re not sure if we can afford it.

 Should we do it anyway?

Dear Beach Toy

The short answer:

Yes, go!

The long answer:

 Yes, go!

See it as an opportunity to prioritize. By going to Thailand, you are prioritizing your family’s health over all else. You get some much needed sun and get away from the cold, icky winter. You get your batteries rewound and come back, stronger, healthier, happier and ready to give your all. You will thus be able to produce more – which will benefit society at large – and you will save society the cost of the doctor’s visits you would otherwise have because you either caught colds or ate too much at Christmas. So, really, from a socioeconomic perspective, you HAVE to go.

If you feel bad about spending money you don’t quite have, perhaps you can arrange it, so that you are in Thailand over Christmas – that way, you don’t have to spend money on presents and a tree and all the trimmings. (And you don’t have to put up with those crazy in-laws!!) (Wait!! Are we talking about YOUR in-laws now or mine??)

Anyway, if governments everywhere are a rolemodel, I guess you are supposed to spend money you don’t have??…

We only live once. Why shouldn’t it be on a bounty island with the most delicious cuisine in the world? (Oh, thaifood – I am drooling already.)

When you get back, you’ll just eat oatmeal all through January and thus save on the food budget.

I you decide to go, don’t drink the tapwater, sanitize your hands after touching money and NO ladyboys!

Oh – and I’ve heard, that buying the airfare and the hotel separately could save you a lot of money.

Send us a postcard!

Love,

Cinda
